Puddle Dock Village School

Built ca. 1874, the Village School at Puddle Dock is one of six original one-room schoolhouses in Alna, and one of three that remain (including one adjacent to the Head Tide Church, and another on West Alna Road that have been repurposed as residences).

Located just behind the Post Office at the corner of Dock Road and Head Tide Road (Route 194), the design is typical of the period, with an open floor plan and separate entrances for boys and girls. The Village School at Puddledock was used for its original purpose until 1962.

Since then, it was used for many years as the town office through 1998 before different accommodations (with working flush toilets!) were identified.

The Village School at Puddle Dock is available as an event space suitable for meetings, lectures, classes, exhibits and other gatherings. For further rental information, or to set up an appointment, please contact the Town Office at 207-586-5313.
